I wanted to share with you one of the first quilts I ever made. I think I was around 15 or 16. I picked out the design from a quilting magazine I borrowed from the library and changed the colours. It was inspired by this fabric.
I picked up this fat quarter from a quilt show that I was taken to as a teen. At the time I really wasn't that into sewing and I was just going to be nice to the sweet lady that took my sister and I, but looking back I am so glad I went because I learnt so many things about quilting, and really I'm just so glad I learnt to sew. My mum was too impatient for sewing (as she always put it not me) so the sewing machine that I learnt on was this old, yellowing singer machine that my auntie gave to my mum. To be honest I didn't even know what it was for a long time. Boy that's almost shameful to say now.
The binding is badly sewn, the corners don't meet on most of the blocks and the quilting.... well I was too ashamed to show you how bad it was. But for a first quilt it's not bad at all.
This quilt still gets used regularly around my house in the cooler months, although I'm starting to think it's time for it to be retired with happy memories. :)
I'm sharing this one in the Bloggers Quilt Festival just for fun. There are some AMAZING quilts entered in and some emotional stories. I've had that page open on my computer since it started, eyeing out all the amazing quilts. There are almost 500 quilts entered. (I'm 484) Be sure to visit if you haven't already.
