Finished quilt.

I finished up this commissioned quilt a little while back for a new born little girl named Leah. It was so much fun to make and the colours are so sweet for a little girl.

The back is personalised with appliquéd letters which I machine stitched along the edges.
If you think this looks familiar its actually a moda bake shop pattern  that I've used before.

The scrappy binding saved me after that mishap I had with the "just too short" binding. I used some of the jelly roll strips that had a white background and I couldn't even find the section when I was trying to show hubby later that day. I really love the floral binding on this quilt. It just looks so adorable peeking around from the sides when looking at the back of the quilt.
I hope little Leah can enjoy it for many years to come.

Fabric: Lovely by Sandy Gervais
100% cotton fabric and batting.

Work in progress... Friday??

It's no surprise I didn't make it for WIP Wednesday but that's no reason not to share what I got up to this week.

I've finally got some rows together for little miss big girl bed. I really don't know whats been holding me back on this one. I keep telling myself it's because we haven't got her a mattress yet and hubby says he's waiting for her bed and quilt to be finished. A bit of "chicken or the egg" happening I think.

I picked Central Park by Kate Spain for this quilt because it just seemed to suit little miss to a T. Bright and fun. Not overly girly but obviously for a girl with all that purple. PERFECT!!

Also got my pin-wheels finished up. YAY!! Just need to play around with the layout. Kinda like it on the diagonal. What do you think? Also need to add a border. I'm thinking scrappy squares or rectangles?

Look how pertty. :)

Hope you enjoy your weekend.

The big reveal!

Well not so big but still a reveal.

I made this mini quilt as a wall hanging for my cousins little boy.  He loves his cars and as soon as he saw the back that's all he wanted to look at. I'm sure he would want to hang it backwards if he got his choice. :) As long as he likes it.

I hand stitched around the appliquéd letters as I did with my "Dream" cushion in 2 alternating colours and finished it off with hand binding. I made the entire front from scraps of blue, some which I'm pretty sure were in the quilt I made for him at his baby shower.

I also added these tabs on the corners for a piece of dowel to keep it straight when hung.

I really enjoyed making it and am thinking there will probably be a few more posts similar to this in the near future.

A romantic touch.

I might be being a bit presumptuous but I can't help think this quilt has got a romantic feel to it. It might be this pic not sure but I can just see two love birds cuddled under it on a chilly evening. That's exactly what I made it for too... perfect size for 2 to snuggle. :)

Besides red is the colour  of love & passion... (and maybe anger but hey I'm not going there)

It measures 126cm (50") X 140cm (55") which is throw rug size. I used 100% cotton fabric and batting.
Kid friendly, adult friendly and lots of snuggles welcome. :)

The beginning.

I wanted to share with you one of the first quilts I ever made. I think I was around 15 or 16. I picked out the design from a quilting magazine I borrowed from the library and changed the colours. It was inspired by this fabric.

I picked up this fat quarter from a quilt show that I was taken to as a teen. At the time I really wasn't that into sewing and I was just going to be nice to the sweet lady that took my sister and I, but looking back I am so glad I went because I learnt so many things about quilting, and really I'm just so glad I learnt to sew. My mum was too impatient for sewing (as she always put it not me) so the sewing machine that I learnt on was this old, yellowing singer machine that my auntie gave to my mum. To be honest I didn't even know what it was for a long time. Boy that's almost shameful to say now.

The binding is badly sewn, the corners don't meet on most of the blocks and the quilting.... well I was too ashamed to show you how bad it was. But for a first quilt it's not bad at all.
This quilt still gets used regularly around my house in the cooler months, although I'm starting to think it's time for it to be retired with happy memories. :)

I'm sharing this one in the Bloggers Quilt Festival just for fun. There are some AMAZING quilts entered in and some emotional stories. I've had that page open on my computer since it started, eyeing out all the amazing quilts. There are almost 500 quilts entered. (I'm 484)  Be sure to visit if you haven't already.
