A quilt top.

YAY!!! I can't believe I've finally finished this quilt top. I am itching to bast and quilt it now.

Not sure how yet, it'll probably come to me when the presser foot hits it. I'm not much of a planner.

I would love to try a little but of free motion in the border or something like that but since I've never free motion quilted anything bigger than a thumb print I'm thinking just to stick to my trusty walking foot. I'm not that eager to unpick a full quilt worth of quilting. Any suggestions?

Some Solids

Firstly I just wanted to say a quick thank you to all your lovely comments in my previous post. Pulling teeth out is no fun but I'm doing a lot better this week.
M has started pre-school one day a week the last couple of weeks and although I feel a little bad that I'm enjoying a whole day to my self, man oh man can I get things done when she's not wrapped around my ankles. And she sure enjoys her day away from home.

I've even started a new quilt.

I have been totally wrapped up in the world of Pinterest. I know that's not really news but I was kind of surprised that I was so inspired by this picture. Not to paint a wall in my house magenta pink but to make something... anything with these colours.

This is what I have so far. I wanted to do something with triangles but if I had to wrestle with any more HSTs I would have gone insane so I went with these. The whole thing came together pretty quick and once I learnt the trick to getting those crisp points it was smooth sailing. ;)

Weekend Stitching

I didn't get up to too much this weekend. I had a couple of teeth surgically removed last Thursday so I spent most of my weekend in bed. Its alright though cause I had Tom Welling and this little project to keep me company. (yes I embrace my inner teen and watch Smallville and I love it ;) )

I finished up my first hand embroidery panel and had attached it to my backing dresden.

Just spent some time on a little hand quilting to give it the finishing touch.

I also got spoilt by my hubby and M with these gorgeous tulips. It's been almost a week and they're still goin strong. ;)

Little girls are so much fun...

Oh how much fun are little girls? I'm being very biased, only having 1 little girl and all. But how can you go past cute little booties with a lacy ruffle. As soon I saw this pattern on Etsy I had to have and with my cousin expecting a little girl it gave me the best excuse to go ahead and try it. (Though the $3.50 I spent on the pattern was an awesome buy in itself)

The fabric is Peach weekends by Erin McMorris and I used some cream fleece for the lining. Perfect for keeping little toes nice and warm.

I absolutely love this colour combo...

and I couldn't go past making a matching headband.

It was pretty simple to make the flower. I used this tutorial. The only difference was I used a hot glue gun. I've come along way when it comes to hand stitching but fiddly little pieces of fabric and a needle is just asking for trouble. Still working on hand eye co-ordination. :P

Even wrapping this one up was so much fun.

A quilt for Ava

You may remember a while ago I had a little go at foundation piecing. Well I'm happy to say it turned into a cushion to go with a finished quilt for my beautiful niece.

And this quilt top turned into this finished quilt.

I really enjoyed this quilt. Even though there was a lot of slicing, dicing and trimming, it came together pretty fast... and I really enjoy a quilt that finishes up fast. I'm impatient like that.

I used the same pink for the binding and I used some cotton fabric I scored for next to nothing (for 100% cotton fabric that is) from Ikea. I really like the softness of the backing fabric. Its so cute too. ;)

If I couldn't visit this quilt I think I would have kept it all to myself... pfff who am I kidding, as soon as I see little Ava I'm ready to give her all my quilts and anything else she'd look at. Babies are just too cute!!

Cushion love

Winter is a time to snuggle, cuddle bake and sew... so that's what I've been doing. Stuffing myself with brownies, sipping lots of tea, snuggling up with a throw rug and making a few cushions.
I thought I'd share a pic of a cushion I've been having fun with.
This is the first time I've hand quilted a project. My quilting of choice is machine but I really had fun doing this one. I know it's only a cushion but it took me long enough working with this little one I can't imagine doing anything much bigger.

I've been wanting to make a cushion with this message on it for a while now.
In my head it had more of a typography style to it but when I started I had to put in a patchwork border. It just didn't feel like me otherwise. ;)

Buttons...

I wanted to quickly share this image that I put together a while back showing how you can turn a fabric covered button into a cute embellishment for your hair tie. This image has been pinned many times and on one image some one had suggested that it would work really well in place of shoe laces on tap shoes.
I had to see how this worked...

A lovely lady half way across the world was kind enough to show me how it worked with her little miss' tap shoes. Thank you Amy for shining a light on this one!!!
