The Mario Bros Quilt

Luigi

I did it... I started the Mario Bros quilt. I had already planned on making one for my gamer hubby but since Angela at Cut to Pieces started a quilt along I thought I'd tag along with them. I am making a few adjustments though...
Firstly I couldn't get my hands on anything like that interfacing stuff (yes that is the technical term :p) and the thought of sewing 324 blocks together after cutting them up doesn't sound at all fun. So I took a leaf from Kristen's book and cut strips of fabric and put my blocks together as I went along.

Goomba

Also I'm using a different colour for each background and...

With help from my sis, the redesigned Mario
I'm redrawing a few blocks and swapping some characters.
I guess it still is the quilt I was planing on making to begin with but it's so much more fun to do it with a group! I'm loving the flickr group too.
Oh boy how this takes me back. I have fond memories of playing the original Mario Bros on the cartridge style console. My sister and I would spend hours tying to get to the princess only to find you never really rescue her and the game is run through again in a different colour tone.
When the first Sony Play Station came out we were so excited that our dad made a deal with us. If we'd save half the money he would match it so that we could buy one.
Then the crash bandicoot phase started... ;)

Dont ya just love the excitement of waiting for a package to arrive in the mail and then tearing it open when it does arrives.

Oh boy so much goodness in one parcel!!

Fabric from Pink Castle Fabrics
Oh and for all the Aussies out there... 4 yards of designer fabric for about $35 including postage...

Down under quilt swap

Ive done it. I finished up my quilt top for the Down Under Doll Quilt Swap.
I tell ya though, it's really hard getting out of my own way. I have these grand ideas in my head but I never plan anything and change it up as I go.

Almost threw in the towel with these blocks but once I realised that I could fit a whole heap more if I made them smaller, well then there was no stopping me. I decided, at the last minute too, that I would
put some white in there. I feel that my partner might appreciate this since most of the quilts in her mosaic had white in them. Lets see what kinda feedback I get in the flickr group

Quilts for the twins.

What's more exciting than a bundle of joy? TWO bundles...
How many of you cringed?

I always wanted twins until I had my little miss. Then my respect for any mum who firstly gave birth to 2 children within an hour of each other and then breast fed and nursed 2 children at the same time, completely sky rocketed!!!
I must be hard but watching 2 little ones cooing and laughing must make it all worthwhile.

I used Moda's Half moon modern collection for the chevron panels and the are small quilts about the size of a pillow case for the twins bassinets. The patches are hand written messages from family and friends, 38 in total. The citrus colours were requested since the gender of the bubs are a surprise.

I could not wait to find out the gender of our baby when we were expecting M, so this mama has done really well to keep it a secret!!
Did you find out with your bub?

DUDQS12

I've decided to go with solids for the Down Under Doll Quilt Swap this time around.

I found a tutorial to creating this amazing block and I thought solids would be perfect! And since my partner had a few rainbow inspired quilts in her mosaic I pulled out all my solids.

So what do you think??

A dress for M

Not much on the quilting front lately. I've been working on a commissioned set of bassinet quilts for a lovely lady, who is expecting twins (almost done, pictures coming soon) but that's pretty much it.
That doesn't mean my sewing machine is gathering dust. I made another dress for M.

I thought I'd play it smart this time around and make a size smaller than what I would usually buy for her, which turned out perfect around the bust and arms but my 106cm 3yr old isn't as tall as your average 3 year old so even after making her dress at a size 5 length I had to add a band around the bottom.

Problem solved.
The weather is beautiful here today so I might take advantage of M's nap by taking some pics, of those quilts I mentioned earlier, outside.

DUDQS 2012

I'm participating in the Down Under Doll Quilt Swap again this year and I'm really excited to get started on my mini. I don't usually participate in any kind of swaps, not for any other reason but I always seem to find out too late. But this year the lovely Michelle from The Quilted Tortoise gave me a heads up. Not only is she the gracious host for this years swap, Michelle was also my partner from the last swap and I still admire her handy work every day!!!

This is the mosaic I've uploaded as inspiration for my partner to be. I know its all very different. I guess when I was trying to put my mosaic together I couldn't really pick any one style that I love more. I do like my traditional quilts but lately I've been swayed toward more modern ones too. The quilting in the centre quilt is just amazing and since free motion isn't my friend I can really appreciate this quilt. (no pressure partner, I promise!!) Last year Michelle made me a mini I adored and absolutely love and she had mentioned that she thought it would be nice to make something for me I may not have made for myself and I am so glad she did. So this year the ball is in the air. ;)
